(Los Angeles) -- Sunny skies greeted the arrival of Emirates Air’s new Airbus A380 aircraft Tuesday, August 5th in Southern California.

Emirates brought its new “superjumbo” to Los Angeles to show off its latest acquisition, and to promote its new service to the West Coast.

Representatives from the airline, Los Angeles World Airports, and the Governor’s Office were on hand for the ceremony at Los Angeles International Airport.

According to Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Executive Vice-President for Engineering and Operations, the carrier has placed orders for 58 A380s as it prepares to expand service in the coming years.

“We plan to use the A380 to meet growing passenger demand on major trunk routes from our Dubai hub, including services to the U.K., Asia-Pacific, and the Americas,” he said.

Emirates begins scheduled service to Los Angeles in October 26, followed by San Francisco on December 15. The carrier currently offers daily flights to the U.S. from its base in Dubai to Houston and New York.

Their new superjumbo has the capacity for 489 passengers, and it comes equipped high-definition wide-screen televisions and WiFi internet service.

Passengers traveling first class enjoy semi-private “suites” with seats that recline fully into lie-flat beds. Additionally, they have access to a lounge and two “shower-spas”.

Emirates’ A380 made its North American premiere Friday at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
